For many SEO companies and SEO consultants websites must be regularly audited or assessed in order to know the “SEO health” of the websites in their custody. Assessment is important for an SEO company to track the progress of their SEO campaign as well as to determine the effects of the different search engine optimisation strategies. The importance of documenting every SEO strategy implemented and the Assessment of the website in terms of its performance via analytics would give you valuable data on what works and what doesn’t, remember that every search engine algorithm is kept a secret and every algorithm have hundreds if not thousands of ranking factors.

Tracking the site’s performance SEO-wise is not going to be a problem since there are several applications that were developed in order to automate such tracking process. However, in assessing the website, such should be done manually as it will give you an idea on what works or what doesn’t work. The following are some areas that should be the areas that should be assessed in your website.

1. Assess your page links – start assessing if your website still have enough “SEO juice” since links created would have the tendency of becoming broken over time, this could be due to site changes, site closure or simply the webmaster have removed the link to your website. Then move on to assessing your sites internal links, you may have changed or removed a website page that may be linking to your homepage thus a reduction in the number of your links.

2. Assess your Keywords – it is a good time to revisit your keyword research and check whether or not you have already ranked in the “strong keywords”. Remember that traffic is the most important target for SEO thus you should assess if your keywords still would yield a high volume of traffic, if not it would be time to move on to another target keyword.

These may just be two of the site assessment that you can do, however doing this may increase the stability of your website in terms of search engine optimisation.

It is a known fact that Google is the search engine that is commonly targeted by SEO companies or SEO consultants. The main reason of course is that it is the search engine of choice by sixty to seventy percent (60%-70%) of internet users. The popularity of Google makes ranking in this search engine to be a very profitable endeavor. However, ranking in Google is not an easy task since Google pioneered in the continuous improvement of their search engine algorithm. This continuous change or update in their algorithm is aimed to make their search results to be as relevant as possible to the keyword used by the user.

With the goal of improving their search algorithm, Google have successively introduced several updates, when the update was launched it was dubbed as the Google Panda. When Google Panda was first released there were many websites including websites that are owned by large branded companies. Google announced that Google Panda algorithm will as much as possible would deliver relevant results in every user search. It is already several months and Google has been continuously delivering updates to the Google Panda algorithm. We thus, have to understand that the reason why sites were de-ranked by Google is because there are several new ranking factors which became site SEO vulnerabilities that were added to the Google Panda algorithm and identifying these would help you secure a strong Google SERP ranking.

1. The lack of relevant content incorporated in the website. Since Google is focused on relevance your content must be relevant to your site’s overall theme and content should always be added and are fresh, this will tell Google that your site relevancy is high.

2. Inconsistency between the title tag and the actual content of the web page. This again will determine the relevance of your site thus you have to be consistent when writing the title of your site page with the content that such page has.

3. Duplicate contents – probably one of the main site SEO vulnerability is the presence of duplicate contents in your website, in order to avoid being banned or de-ranked by Google you have to make sure that your content are original and is not a copy from another website.

There are more site SEO vulnerabilities however these are the top three site SEO vulnerabilities that every SEO Company or SEO consultant should look at especially if they are trying to regain the ranking lost brought about by Google Panda.

If you haven’t noticed yet, there is a pop-up window in every Google search or there is a page that will appear whenever you login to your Gmail account, and what is that notice? It’s Google saying that they have a new privacy policy. This new Google Privacy Policy simply states that there are around 60 policies that were removed and the original policy was condensed to include data collection and its utilisation for all of the Google services being offered by the search engine giant. Unlike other previous Google policies this new privacy policy is something which you cannot opt-out of, this is a mandatory change in your Google account which will commence on March 1, 2012.

The Lawmaker’s Contention

This change in Google’s privacy policy is not left uncontested, after the announcement of Google’s change in privacy policy, lawmakers especially those in the European Union have raised several questions and is now currently calling on the search engine giant to stop the implementation of its privacy policy pending EU’s full review of such policy. The review of Google’s privacy policy is for the European Union to determine if the new Google Privacy Policy is consistent with the European Union’s law on data protection.

Initial Problems Seen

Although the new privacy policy according to Google is a change that would enable them to deliver their services better, the European Union already saw problems that may make the Google Privacy Policy inconsistent with the data protection law of EU. One of which is the fact that since identity of the person searching via Google may be collected would this not invade the privacy of such person especially if such person would be searching about medical information such as diseases, is it fine to track such user? In a previous Google case it was revealed that even if you delete your data it will still remain in storage for about or more than sixty days. The question is how much protection or security would be given to these deleted data while in storage and waiting for final deletion?

Of course Google may mean well in their privacy policy change however it would be prudent to have on the part of the Government and Google as well to determine if such policies affecting their constituents and users respectively should be consistent with the laws of the land or the country to which it is being implemented in order to avoid any future legal problems something that some social media platforms are currently battling.

Ever experience getting into a situation wherein you think you have everything you need in order to accomplish you task and finding out later on that you have forgotten the some essential parts? In the field of Search Engine Optimisation this may have been an experience shared by a lot of SEO companies and SEO consultants. This may be attributed with the fact that the process of search engine optimisation is composed of a lot of different strategies or elements which should be performed in order to achieve the goal that was set. Some strategies or elements of SEO are complex like the process of link building and some are simple just like that of incorporating the values for your meta element. It is because of the combination of complex and simple elements of SEO that many SEO companies and SEO consultants have focused on the complex and may tend to forget the incorporation of the simple SEO elements or simple SEO strategies. The following are some of the simple SEO elements that one should not forget to incorporate in their overall SEO campaign.

1. Fill Up the Title and Meta element in your web page – this is a simple task that even the search engine giant Google may have missed, to prove it try searching for “Google Keyword Tool” using google.com and you may be surprised that the main title of the link to such page is “Untitled”. You need to incorporate a title and fill up the meta elements, although such strategy is simple and not too much of SEO relevance it helps in displaying your site correctly in the search engine results page.

2. Remember that Images are not Crawled – if you plan on incorporating images in your website, which is suggest you do, then take note of its limitation of not being crawled by bots, thus it is important to incorporate the “alt” attribute to your image element in order to insert keywords that may be relevant with your image.

3. Remember not to SPAM – with the ongoing improvement in the search engine algorithms of Google, Yahoo and Bing, quality is paramount over quantity thus do not utilise any Spamming techniques in order to manipulate the search engines.

The cardinal rule in order for one not to waste time in implementing their SEO campaign is to treat both simple and complex SEO strategies as equally important.

Time and again we need to be reminded on the benefits of search engine optimisation. Many businesses have been inquiring about this method of marketing their business but most of them seem to need to be well informed about search engine optimisation before they actually acquire SEO services. Since this type of marketing is not the same as any traditional advertising or marketing many start-up businesses are apprehensive in acquiring such search engine optimisation services. This may also be due to the fact that search engine optimisation is not initially tangible and its effect could be felt only after several months or when the search engines have already indexed and ranked the website high in the search engine results page. Unlike the different marketing methods using the tri-media like television, radio and print where the advertising method is instant and thus instantly tangible.

So what exactly are the different benefits that SEO can bring to your business?

1. Brand Recall Will Be Higher – since your site is up there in the search engine results ranking page those who visit your site and those who just see your site may easily associate your site with their keyword entry, thus associating it with a particular brand increasing brand recall.

2. Increase Traffic and ROI – since your business website is going to be ranked high if not first in the search engine it will definitely have a lot of visitors and thus increasing the number of potential customers thus an increased possibility of ROI.

3. SEO Creates a Positive impression In Your Business – Since your site is ranked first or high in the search engine results page your visitors will be able to associate your site with reliability thus creating a positive impression about your website.

Those who finally resort to acquiring SEO services have been reaping multiple benefits and they find out that the return of investment is greater than the actual investment. It only requires a little patience and of course a great SEO Company to handle the SEO campaign.

Wednesday morning is a momentous day for Facebook and its Fans because for the first time, the Social Media giant is going Public by filing their IPO. What is an IPO? IPO stands for Initial Public Offering, this is considered to be the first sale of a private company of its stocks to the public. With Facebook launching to popularity after reaching its half billion registered users it is no wonder that the social media giant is truly an income generating endeavor.

How Much is Facebook’s IPO?

According to previous announcements made, Facebook’s initial target is around five billion dollars ($5 Billion) however it is predicted to increase due to the demand of various investors interested in Facebook stocks. This target is considered to be the highest IPO that would emerge from Silicon Valley even topping Google’s $2 Billion initial target when it opened its IPO.

Who will be the Lead left?

A “lead left” is the underwriter’s name that will appear on the top of the Initial Public Offering prospectus. According to recent reports Facebook is looking at five book runners and is inclined to pick Morgan Stanley as its “lead left”, the other book runners are JP Morgan, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and Barclays Capital. Morgan Stanley is the company behind the successful IPO launch of different internet companies like Groupon and Zynga which may have helped them in being selected by Facebook as the “lead left”.

Stock Market Effects

With the announcement of Facebook’s IPO caused a media frenzy as well as stirring up investors, which increased the shares of different social media companies like Linkedin and Ren Ren, furthermore this event has increased the competition in Wall Street. For Facebook the IPO once it formally opens to the public it would have an idea on what the company is really worth.

Last January 24, 2012 Google has announced that they have changed their policy across several of their services. You might have been bothered by the latest pop-up notice in Google’s search results page, don’t be bothered as this is just Google’s way of informing you on their policy changes which will be effective on March 1, 2012. Unlike for previous policy changes you as the user cannot opt-out of these changes in Google, that means its going to happen and everybody will be affected.

What are the Policy Changes?

According to Google they will be removing around sixty existing policies and they will be replaced by policies which, according to the search engine giant, will be a lot shorter and easier to browse over or read. This means goodbye reading a page long terms of condition or policies wherein after reading three paragraphs you might already be in slumber land. The shorter version of the Google policies may help everyone in understanding the different changes and the scope and limitations of each of Google’s services.

Specific Policy Changes

The updated privacy policy basically focuses on how your user details are being safeguarded and being utilized by Google. For instance Google explains in their privacy policy how they gather information for you, it is basically stated that information is gathered in two ways these are gathering your user information based on what you as the user register with Google. The other way of gathering information is by using your data information from using the different Google services. For the second type of gathering information there are several types of data that are being gathered like your Log information, information about user location, Cookies and other anonymous identifiers, the user device information and other relevant information.

With Whom Information is shared?

One of the fears of most of Google users or internet users in general is on the manner on how their personal information or data gathered by Google be safeguarded and utilised. Google has made it clear with their policy that there are several ways on how your personal information is shared. First, your personal information as gathered by Google may only be shared with the users’ consent. Second, your personal information may be shared with domain administrators or those providing you service and support through Google services like that of the Google apps. Third, your information may be utilised for external processing via Google’s affiliates who will process your information for the intended purpose of Google. Finally, your information may be utilised or shared by Google to third party companies for any legal reasons thereof.

Conclusion

Making the Google policies concise and easy to understand makes it very accessible to the millions of people who are using Google or any of its services in one way or another. This move by Google helped a lot of people especially those who are not fond of reading long Privacy Policies and Terms of Service. As to the extent of its benefits or its detrimental effects, it would still remain to be seen pending its full implementation on the first day of March.

Creating landing pages for Pay Per Click campaigns can be a difficult and time-consuming job, especially if you’re new to the concept, and this especially applies if you’re directing your users straight to a lead generation or enquiry form.

While many consumers may be keen to jump straight in and give you their details without a moment’s hesitation, there are those who will look a little deeper at the tone and design of the form itself. It’s these kinds of consumers who are unlikely to convert, and therefore it’s these kinds of consumers who need a little more encouragement at this stage of the buying cycle.

We’ve put together eight tips for webmasters eager to draft up great-looking landing page forms that will blend seamlessly into the design of the site yet still encourage the user get in contact with your company.

Make the form as simple as easy to use as possible. This is often easier said than done but crucial if you’re to encourage the user to choose you company over your competitors.

Ensure that your form is bright, bold and eye-catching. The aesthetic appeal of the form really does matter and it should be designed to fit in with your site’s existing branding.

Similarly, make sure that the look and feel of the form is consistent with the rest of your website. If users land on a page that doesn’t meet their expectations, they’re not likely to stick around, and a landing page optimisation form that sticks out like a sore thumb smacks of unprofessionalism.

Consider your audience at all times. If you’re a high-level service provider targeting multi-national corporations then keep the style of the landing page chic and professional; if you’re a local nursery wanting to appeal to young families, design a landing page that’s bold, quirky and fun.

Make sure the form looks clean and uncluttered. The user won’t want to feel overwhelmed when they land on the page, so widen your side margins and use whitespace to your advantage!

Keep all important information and calls to action above the fold of the page at all times. Contact numbers should be displayed as prominently where possible, too.

Lay out the information logically and consider the visual cues that your landing page has to offer. Typically, the user’s eyes will fall in a ‘Z’ pattern down the page, searching for the information that’s most relevant to them and acting upon what they see in a matter of seconds. If in doubt about the effectiveness of your landing page, always ask colleagues or impartial individuals their opinions and get an outside perspective on what you have designed.

Avoid integrating pop-ups or pop-unders into your landing page. The user has already followed a promotional message to reach this point in the cycle – they don’t want to be inundated with more sales spiel.

As different as social media marketing sounds and is to other marketing efforts, they are still a part of your whole marketing strategy and should be treated that way.

Even though the methods used for social media are completely different to that of PPC, they still aim for the same results. This is why social media should be seen as part of the team, as opposed to the only way.

Social media should be used tactfully to achieve these objectives:

- To achieve targets that cannot be accomplished by other marketing methods.

- Increase access to your target audience.

- Make your business more available to a brand new audience.

- Turning potential clients into converting sales.

- Improving experience for existing customers.

Conclusion

It’s vital that you remember social media is another form of marketing. It is not its own individual field of marketing. Although it can be used to achieve many different goals, it generally is used to achieve a higher amount of sales. However, social media campaigns can be aimed at strengthening the relationship between customer and company.

Whatever you are using Twitter management techniques to achieve, you must remember that you can use your other marketing campaigns, such as SEO to help benefit your marketing campaign. If you use web design strategies to help visually optimise your social media profiles, ontop of your other marketing techniques, then you are sure to see a better return on your social media efforts.

Selling is one of the most important things when it comes to a business. Without it, there would be no incoming money, thus no funds for campaigns such as social media. Your social media agency can use the audience that has been acquired to sell to, but there is a fine line between what is ok and will result in sales, however a too aggressive approach will result in negative feedback and maybe even a loss of following.

What Not To Do

First off, it’s important to know what not to do. Social media, is a social environment which is built around friend ships and conversations. Your audience do not want to log on and be sold to constantly, if you do this, then it is likely that you will lose their interest because you have annoyed them etc.

Techniques

The first and probably the most beneficial is promotional codes or discounts. Everyone loves a bargain and are more likely to purchase when money is being saved. Exclusive social media vouchers are great, it makes your followers feel “exclusive” but it’s also a great way to measure how many people are using the social media voucher code. Using voucher codes is most likely the best method to sell on social media, it is not direct and if anything can be seen as a nicety online.

Sending links to new or old products is also a good way to get sales, although not as good as voucher codes. If links to products are constantly posted out and make the majority of your content, then it is likely that your followers are getting annoyed with the constant stream of sales and will begin to ignore them. Getting the balance is crucial.

Contests are similar to voucher codes. They can be posted about all day long, however it does not necessarily convert to a sale; it will help establish a following but not an instant sale because these followers would be interested in receiving your product for free. This can however convert into a sale organically or with the help of a voucher code.

Conclusion

Selling on social media is difficult and is a completely different tactic to SEO or even web design. Social networking sales are very laidback and are more of an “the offer is on the table” situation, where the follower does not feel pressured into purchasing anything but is aware of the products and offers available.
