Yesterday saw the latest PageRank update by Google across their index. SEO Positive and our clients are happy to announce that all sites increased in PageRank, with many clients gaining a PageRank of 5 and above. This is fantastic and therefore does come down to the link building that SEO Positive have carried out over the past months after the last update in January.
SEO Positive have officially gained a PageRank of 8 which is almost unheard of, and is actually unheard of within the SEO industry for an SEO Agency to actually achieve. Being the only UK SEO company with a PageRank 8 homepage, and many PageRank 7 inner pages, this is a huge testimant to the quality of work that SEO Positive are able to provide.
In Search Engine Optimisation, one of its goals is to attain a respectable page rank. For beginners in the field of SEO the meaning of page rank should be outlined or defined. Page rank is a series of algorithms that places numerical value to a web page in order to determine the relevance of that web page. Google employs page ranking and it is evident if you download the Google toolbar which displays a meter bar icon that displays the current web pages’ page rank. It is always necessary for SEO practitioners to ascertain aspects that affect the ranking of their target website, it is therefore imperative that page rank algorithm must be known and studied by such SEO’s.
Unfortunately, the current Page Rank algorithm is, just like the secret recipes of famous food chains, locked in the search engine company’s vault or rather inside the minds of few individuals working for such company. Fortunately though the general idea on how such page ranking works was divulged to the public, the general function of the page rank algorithm was outlined for the public especially SEO’s to understand and apply the necessary optimisation methods for their target websites.
Page Ranking works initially through links, crawlers will look for links that are relevant to the site content or topic and each link to the site is considered a vote for the site. Therefore, page ranking will only increase if other websites of credible status adds a link to your website which means therefore that such link is a vote to your website. So it is really easy to get a high page rank, you just have to ask some websites to add a link to your site, right? Wrong , asking for links from reputable websites is not an easy endeavor, most of the time these companies will just ignore the small companies asking to be linked from the company website. What if you got lucky and almost all companies that you contacted placed a link from their site to yours. Then everything is good right? Wrong again, although this is a desired characteristics it is not assurance of a good page rank because of the fact that in order to finally get a good page rank all the websites being linked to or from must have valid contents and are not just created for the purpose of having a link for a specific website. A website that has these kinds of links leads the user to making a link farm which is considered to be one type of SEO scamming.
Although Page Rank is affected by many factors, it’s importance is indispensable and thus should not be taken granted because the mind or the page rank is a terrible thing to waste.
Page rank is the type of numeric value that shows how important a web page is on the internet. Many famous search engines like Google figure when a web page links to other page, so it is an efficient way of casting vote for another page. The ranking of the page is based on the casting of votes, the more votes a page gets, the more importance and attention are directed to this page. In this way, Google determines the importance of the page from the votes, cast for this page. The importance of each vote is taken in to notice at the calculation of page rank of the page. We can say that page rank is the effective tool of Google way of determining the importance of a page. It matters a lot because it is considered an important factor that Google employs for the ranking of the page in search engine results.
Page Rank technology of the Google plays the major role in showing web pages in search engines. Getting insight into this ranking system helps e-commerce merchants to get improved search engine optimization which is ideal for increasing traffic of website. A reliable SEO Company can help you in understanding the working process of page rank. It is proprietary a type of mathematical formula that Google employs to calculate the importance of the web page based on coming links. The algorithm of page rank assigns a numeric value to each web page that is the URL’s Page Rank.
To evaluate the worth of the page rank, we need to check its premise and how accurate it looks. Many SEO firms like SEO Positive Limited and others apply different Page Rank algorithms in getting advantage from this effective SEO tools. Generally Page Rank says that if a page links to other page, it acts like casting a vote which is a good indication for other page.
If many pages link to other page, it has a lot of votes and the worth of this page should be higher. The underlying implication is that people prefer to link pages they regard are good. People like to link to following types of pages like: Reciprocal links-It indicates that link to my page and I will link to your page. Link requirements- the use of our script means to place a link to your page or we give you a reward due to linking to our page. Family and friends- this is my father’s site, my pets ‘site and many more. By using Page Rank technology, we are able to get prominent preferences for our site.
What is PageRank, and what does it mean? Pagerank is a factor that Google has bought in to its algorythms to help determin how trustworthy a site is, and how many other sites believe that the website in question is relevant for what it is saying it is relevant for.
PageRank is a factor that rates how good your site is, most people think of pagerank, as the higher your pagerank the higher up the search engines you will be, well thats not correct, there ar emillions of websites that are ranked highly with a low pagerank. Pagerank is a score that Google gives your website out of ten. For example, most new websites will start off with a pagerank of zero. As they grow older, and bigger, and gain more links from other websites that have pagerank, the higher your pagerank will grow.
To increase pagerank it is believed that you need to gain more links. Links are thought to pass on pagerank, so if you get a link from ten pagerank six sites, that will help you gain more pagerank than gaining eighty links from pagerank zero sites.
When looking to add links to your site, dont make the same mistake as thousands do, and just look at pagerank, there is a whole lot more than pagerank to look at when gaining links to your website. Also be sure to use a “true pagerank tool” as there are many webmasters that fake their pagerank in order to sell links on their site for more money. Be sure to check, as a pagerank eight site that has fake pagerank will only do you harm, not good.
You can check your pagerank buy using a Free PageRank Tool.
So we have come to the end of 2008, and the last PageRank update of 2008 has just finished. You can assume that Google has now crawled your site for a PageRank update, and if it has not changed yet, then it wont change this time.
I have already had many people contacting me (over the holidays) to celebrate their new PageRank update (a little more than the New Year I think)!
As my previous post says, PageRank is not everything, but it sure is nice to have.
Although PageRank is a nice to have, the SERPs are the main thing to keep your eye on going in to 2009. Thats what SEO is all about.
When you hear the word Search Engine Optimisation, a very popular term comes in your mind and that is Page Rank. I know other SEO friends who are always looking up their page rank especially when Google updates it. I can see frustration when their page rank decreases and excitement when their page rank increases. But then the question is does page rank still matter?
First let us define what Page Rank is? A Page Rank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web. There are many tools to determine Page Rank. Number one tool is the Google Page Rank Tool; usually the Page Rank depends on how many relevant links are pointing to our website. The more relevant link you have the higher chance that you will get a good Page Rank. It has been said that Google updates Page Rank every three months, I just don’t know if this is true, but based in experienced I can see good Page Rank updates every two to three months.
Some SEO specialists are really obsessed when it comes to Page Rank; they tend to build too much link just to get high page rank. And even feel paranoid when their Page Rank goes down. But honestly for me, Page Rank is indeed still important but not as important as Search Engine Results Page or SERPs. You can use a good Page Rank in exchanging links or maybe when the time comes that you want to sell your website. A good Page Rank can also be a good way in marketing yourself as a SEO. As this is one way to prove that you know how to do link building well to your website. When you have a good Page Rank it only means that you have good set of relevant back links to your site and as we all know, link building is one of the most important things when it comes to SEO.
But we must not forget that there are other more important things to consider like Search Engine Results, which is for me is more important than anything else because this is what SEO is all about. Almost all SEO specialists want and are aiming for good ranking in the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. As much as we want to focus on Page Rank, it is also essential that we do not forget our rankings on search engines.
Some people say that Page Rank is not anymore important and not a big deal at all. But based on my experience, I still consider Page Rank important as I can use it when I do link exchange and I can evaluate how good I am doing when it comes to link building as much as I can evaluate how relevant are the links I’m getting. But then I never forget to consider other things when it comes to SEO. Like content creation and other good on page and off page optimisation which will not only give me a good Page Rank but can make my website rank in major search engines.
So for the question if Page Rank is still important, for me yes it is but there are other more important things to be considered and more important like SERPs. But point of views when it comes to Page Rank is different and can vary.
