This is also true in the field of search engine optimisation, this is because of the fact that Search engine optimisation deals directly with the different aspects of the internet and its main component the websites. One significant change or newly integrated technology in the internet is the social media network. Social media networks were initially created with the aim of connecting people through the internet allowing them to share insights, profiles and photos among others. Social media networks are being dubbed as the internets’ social playground where people meet other people online.

Two of the most sought after social media networks are MySpace and Facebook where the latter is being favoured by most social media network users. According to the latest survey Facebook have even surpassed Google in terms of the website being widely used by internet users. Having surpassed a website that has been in the top spot for several years now means a lot, specially to search engine optimisation companies and consultants. SEO companies and SEO consultants have seen the potential of Facebook or the social media network in general as a rich source of traffic.

Thus, social media is considered to be the next generation in search engine optimisation strategy. Social media networks does not only bring in traffic but also targeted traffic which gives provision for higher conversion rates this is because of the fact that social media network users are usually converged by a common hobby or interest of the user. Twitter, the microblogging company has been regarded as one of Web 2.0’s current and sought after result. When the microblogging company went live it was highly accepted and sought after by many internet users. Although Twitter can only allow users to post a one hundred forty character message it still created a revolution on how people utilise the internet. This is because of the fact that internet users were given the chance to send messages or tweets over the internet in real-time, a feature that also influenced the big players in the online business such as Google and Microsoft which led them to forging ties with Twitter in order to integrate real time search in their search engines.

Now, Twitter is also considering using its microblogging site in order to rake in additional revenue. Twitter has recently launched its advertising platform the Promoted Tweets. Promoted tweets is a type of advertising platform that allows businesses to use ordinary tweets that is highlighted for a wide group base to see. The Promoted tweets will start off as a normal ordinary tweet that will be organically sent to the timelines of those who are follow that specific account, when the site do became promoted it will have the same functionality of an ordinary tweet but with the provision that such tweet will be paid for by the advertiser.

Twitter will be launching their promoted tweets in different stages, the first stage was to place the promoted tweets on the search results, this is to test whether or not users will be favouring such tweets which will be seen when users reply’s or retweets the promoted tweet. If there is a good response from the users, Twitter will then move on to taking the promoted tweets in to the next level of advertising. So SEO companies and SEO consultants must now brace for the coming of this new way of advertising.

The use of keywords is very important in search engine optimisation basically because of the fact that keywords are being used by search engines to categorise your website. Keywords can be likened to a catalogue number of a certain product where it is used to find the said product in a myriad of other different products. In the case of search engines keywords are used to identify and classify websites that are active over the internet. In search engine optimisation the keywords are the first to be taken into consideration, meaning the determination of the keywords is the first step to the whole search engine optimisation campaign. N

In developing the keywords list in your SEO campaign it is important to take into consideration the three most important features or characteristic of a keyword. These are, Search Popularity, Relevance and Competition. Search popularity pertains to the average number of searches done through the search engine using specific keywords. This data is usually gathered through the use of keyword research tools such as word tracker, Keyword Discovery and Google Adwords’ keyword tool.

Second criteria or characteristic that a keyword should have is relevance, this simply means that the keywords that you are to utilise should be related to your websites’ entire content and theme, otherwise if such keyword is no where related or relevant with your websites’ theme and content then this would not only mislead the search engines but it will most of all disappoint the most important visitor of your site and these are the users.

Third characteristic of a keyword that is needed for you gather data upon is the keywords’ competition level. Competition level pertains to the level of difficulty of a certain keywords which is determined by the number of websites using the same keyword. If there is a huge number of websites using the same keyword then competition level is set to high, this means that your website will have to compete for dominancy using the same keyword with other websites.

These are the three basic features that a keyword should have or for an SEO consultant or SEO company to look for in a keyword in order to come up with the best keyword that will suit the needs of the website.

Regular rank checking is necessary in order for SEO companies and SEO consultants to know the current ranking of the website which is the target of the SEO campaign. The process of rank checking however is a very tedious process that is why automated rank checkers have been developed, but search engines do not favor the use of automatic rank checkers for the sole reason that it places too much pressure on the search engine since the automated rank checkers sends too many queries to the search engines.

The different search engine companies, particularly those that are considered the big players in the business are increasing the rate of implementation of their business strategies. This is seen from Microsoft’s release of Bing, its merger with Yahoo and its development of the different features for their own brand of search engine. Not to be outdone Google is taking several steps by having forged an agreement with Twitter for the real time search and now the search engine giant is seen to be focusing its energies more on it’s internet video capabilities. After acquiring YouTube without any clear focus or clear direction by offering it free for the public to use, Google have started making business strategies in making the video website to be an income generating arm of the search engine giant. One of which that was integrated with YouTube are advertisements, related ads are embedded into the videos which when clicked would generate income, this approach is similar to that of Google’s adwords and adsense features. However, in order to increase the viability of YouTube as an income generating arm of the search engine giant it’s CEO’s have deemed it important it increase YouTube’s capabilities by acquiring other companies that could boost YouTube’s income generating powers.

It is for this reason that Google have acquired privately held San Francisco online video platform company, Episodic. According to Episodic’s site blog Google have acquired the company for an undisclosed amount including its terms and conditions of acquisition. Episodic have thus then suspended new registrations with the company however assured existing clients that they would not be affected by the transition.

Episodic is an online video platform that is focused on applications such as video analytics, video monetisation, mobile video and syndication as well as content management.

When apple released it’s pilot product of 2008-2009 the Iphone it is remarkable to see that Google products and features were readily available, despite the fact that Google has manufactured their own mobile devices. Google maps, Googles search and even Google earth are seen as built-in applications in the Iphone mobile device. The presence of the Google products or features in the Iphone has indeed given clients or fans of both products something to cheer about. Apple users were treated to Google’s main application features those that which made it a popular search engine company. It’s popularity combined with the iphone’s marketing strategy have thus given both companies a very large benefit.

This strategic alliance, as they call it, is however not noticeable in apple’s new product the Ipad. The Ipad is apple’s new product, it is a lightweight tablet PC that has all the features of the Iphone and then some. This new product have been developed by Apple for purposes of taking all your PC works in a mobile fashion, unlike for a laptop which is bulky in size the Ipad is considered to be an ultimate mobile PC, which allows you to connect to the internet and do other stuff that you would normally do on a PC. This is the reason why many of the clients of Apple are furious about the fact that the Google applications integrated with the Ipad is not optimised for the hardware. Yes Google products are still pre-installed but they are not as conspicuous as that when they were in the Iphone. The different mobile apps in the Iphone was made available to the Ipad but unlike the iphone the Google applications as well as the other applications are either shown in a reduced window or with a poor resolution when expanded to fill the Ipad screen. Imagine using Google earth in your iphone, the images looks clear but when this is placed or used in an Ipad the resolution looks jagged or pixelated. It would seem like the applications from Iphone was just merely transferred to the Ipad without optimising it for that specific hardware.

With the advent of the Web 2.0, there are several changes that have affected on how Search engine optimisation strategies are being approached or implemented. Many websites have emerged and most of which are new ideas and potentially are going to greatly contribute in bringing in targeted traffic into your website or websites for that matter. Several most notable new or not so new technologies or type of websites that has graced the Web 2.0 is the social media networks, microblogging, blogging sites, bookmarks, and even forums. When you try to analyse it one similarity among these websites is the fact that all of which are encouraging users or giving users the capability to join a community or even create their own community. For social media networks the purpose of building communities is obvious this is true as well with the microblogging site such as twitter with the “follow” feature, with sharing bookmarks with other people community is also being built in social bookmarking sites and of course in forums many people joining in that type of forum are of the same interests thus forming a community. For blogging sites those who place their comments and those who are referring or recommending their website through their own blogs are also forming their own brand of community or virtual community for that matter.

Many SEO companies and SEO consultants have been recognising the power of virtual communities in contributing to their search engine optimisation efforts. One greatest contribution of virtual communities to search engine optimisation is it’s ability to bring in accurately targeted traffic. Since many virtual communities are formed because of one or two common interests people who are members of the virtual community may take interest in the product that you are trying to sell through the virtual community as long as such product of course is highly relevant to the members of the community’s common interest.

Virtual Communities is therefore a new ground for SEO that would help bring in targeted traffic which in turn would give or return a high probability of conversion.

Recent SEO research has shown that the latest strategies that are being given attention by search engines are the contents and the links of a website. However, quantity of contents and links in a website is not enough because of the fact that search engines are able to decipher the quality of links and content. This is the reason why SEO companies and SEO consultants have been focusing on making relevant content and relevant links instead of just bombarding their website with contents. So why is relevance important for search engines anyway? Below are some reasons for that:

  1. Search engine companies are on a quest to return accurate search results. It is because of this, that search engines would favor contents and links that are relevant to the website. The quest for returning accurate search results is to give search engine users the most relevant results that pertains to their intended search. Search engines however are not yet close to making a one hundred percent accuracy but refinement is being undertaken and relevance in websites’ contents and links are deemed to be the basis.
  2. Second reason is that having a relevant content and relevant link would mean that your website will gain traction in your search engine ranking page. Since search engines would require relevant contents and links then it is just but right to follow this criteria set by the search engines.
  3. Since relevance is important for search engines it is one way of detecting and avoiding spam contents and links. This means therefore that search engines would be able to avoid returning search engine results that are “spammy”. This would thus in turn avoid or prevent search engine users to be visiting “unreliable” websites which might even be laced with spywares and viruses.
