In the field of Search engine optimisation one issue that is constantly being debated upon is the issue on duplicate content. This is because of the fact that Duplicate contents have several “faces” or types that some may appear to be outside the characteristics of a spam material or content while some may immediately be considered as spam content. It is this reason that many SEO companies and SEO consultants may have been practicing or using duplicate contents but may not know it which thus it affects the ranking or even the indexing of their target website.
There are several types as mentioned, and it is proper for both a beginning SEO consultant and a professional SEO consultant. The types of duplicate contents are as follows:
1. Mirrored Site – this is a type of content duplication wherein the whole website is stored or uploaded in a different server, this is using exact copies of the website as a whole. This method was widely practiced before in order to avoid downtime but due to the proliferation of this technique being used as a spamming method search engines have considered site mirroring to be a cause for your website to be delisted from their index.
2. Scraping the Content – this method of duplicating content is the process of copying or using the content from a particular website and using it on a different website without applying major changes on the content itself. These minor changes do not change the idea or the message that the content is conveying.
3. Reposts/Reprints – these are contents that may be bordering between what is duplicate and what is not. This is because of the fact that the content is published on several other website but with the express permission of the content owner, in return the sites that use your contents will be linking back to your website or to other web pages that is most relevant to the said content.
4. Internal Duplication – the duplication method is commonly found on blogs and usually poses a problem because aside from the content being found on the main page it is also found on an archive page, search engines also penalises this kind of duplication, thus the most prudent thing to do is to create a summary or snippet of your blog and place a link to the whole blog post
